En el programa de esta convenci\u00f3n hab\u00eda una charla con un t\u00edtulo poco tradicional: \u00abBullshit and the art of crap-detection\u00bb. La misma ser\u00eda ofrecida por Neil Postman<\/a> , un joven educador que en ese a\u00f1o tambi\u00e9n publicar\u00eda Teaching as a subversive activity y despu\u00e9s se convertir\u00eda en uno de los m\u00e1s importantes cr\u00edticos del uso irreflexivo de la tecnolog\u00eda. <\/p>\n En esa charla inolvidable (cu\u00e1nto dar\u00eda poder ir al pasado y disfrutar de la misma) Postman disert\u00f3 sobre una destreza esencial que el sistema educativo debe desarrollar en los estudiantes: <\/p>\n As I see it, the best things schools can do for kids is to help them learn how to distinguish useful talk from bullshit. I think almost all serious people understand that about 90% of all that goes on in school is practically useless, so what I am saying would not require the displacement of anything that is especially worthwhile. Even if it did, I would still be able to argue that helping kids to activate their crap-detectors should take precedence over any other legitimate educational aim.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Despu\u00e9s de este magistral comienzo, Postman presenta una tipolog\u00eda del B.S.: <\/p>\n 1. la pomposidad del discurso:\u00bbMany people in our profession dwell almost exclusively in the realms of pomposity, and quite literally, would be unable to function, if not for the fact that our profession has made respectable this form of bullshit.\u00bb<\/p>\n 2. Fanatismo: Dentro de este tipo, Postman discute el Eichmannism; un tipo de fanatismo que se caracteriza por no tolerar ning\u00fan tipo de evidencia que no est\u00e9 de acuerdo con nuestro punto de vista. Su definici\u00f3n de este tipo de B.S. no tiene precio:<\/p>\n Eichmannism is that form of bullshit which accepts as its starting and ending point official definitions, rules, and categories without regard for the realities of particular situations.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Postman nos ilumina a todos cuando escribe que la mejor manera de reducir el grado de B.S. es estar consciente de nuestra mortalidad. De esa manera nos enfocamos en lo que en realidad es esencial y no perdemos nuestro tiempo en banalidades. Lo que lo lleva a postular la tercera y la cuarta ley de Postman: <\/p>\n Which brings me to the next point, best stated as Postman\u2019s Third Law: \u201cAt any given time, the chief source of bullshit with which you have to contend is yourself.\u201d The reason for this is explained in Postman\u2019s Fourth Law, which is that almost nothing is about what you think it is about–including you.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Al final, el mayor trabajo es con uno mismo.
